TAHOE BABYMOON
TAHOE BABYMOON
We spent a beautiful week celebrating our babymoon in Lake Tahoe. If you’ve never been to Lake Tahoe, it is a MUST on your bucket list! There is so much to do and see, from golf, to water activities in the summer, to snow sports in the winter, to amazing hikes, to various topography and scenic views.
Tahoe Babymoon
For our babymoon, Tom and I started off in South Lake Tahoe on a Wednesday night for a nice little dinner. South Lake is a short 1 1/2 hour drive from where we live, so we decided to spend a quick night at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel before we headed to Carson Valley for our early morning tee time. Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel has suites that are great for long trips (like if you want to be a ski bum one winter!) because it feels like you have your own mini apartment. It’s also right in the heart of South Lake on the strip so you’re in walking distance to a ton of amazing restaurants and shops. I highly recommend heading to Tahoe during the week rather than the weekends in order to avoid the crowds and get better rates!
We woke up early Thursday morning to head out on Highway 207 for our tee time at Genoa Lakes in Minden, NV. We tried to stop by Clyde’s Coffee Roasting Co but it had such a long line that we didn’t have time to wait in! Definitely have Clyde’s on my bucket list now next time I’m in South Lake.
When we arrived at Genoa Lakes, I was so excited! We passed through Main Street in Genoa on our way there, which is the first settlement in Nevada! So cool. I absolutely love Carson Valley for its rich history, beautiful mountains, and breathtaking farmland. I always feel like a cowgirl back in the day whenever I’m there! It was my first time playing Genoa Lakes (Lakes Course) and it did not disappoint! They took all the precautionary social distancing measures too which was an added bonus. The course was in great shape, the staff was super helpful, and very challenging with its many lakes and wildlife!
After golf, we went to the Genoa Bar on Main Street which is the oldest bar in Nevada! Since I’m pregnant, I couldn’t partake in an alcoholic beverage but they made me one of their craft drinks virgin style which was absolutely delicious! The vibe was so cool and I feel like I should’ve had my cowgirl boots on!
For dinner, we had a Basque style dinner at the Carson Valley Golf Course. They have a full Basque style restaurant there, and fun fact, Carson Valley has a huge Basque colony! There were so many courses which I loved, and my mom says her side of the family is Basque. Not sure if it’s true, but it would make sense because I loved everything!
We stayed that night in Minden at the Holiday Inn Express which was newly renovated and super clean. In the morning, we ate at the Cowboy Cafe! I finally got my cowboy fix! It was the perfect old school breakfast diner that I love so much. It looks like a hole in the wall in a strip mall, but let me tell you, they know how to make an omelet, hash browns, waffle, and cup of decaf coffee the right way! We also stopped at the CUTEST drive thru coffee shop called “Coffee on Main” which is owned by a mom and daughter duo. Such good coffee, baked goods, and wonderful customer service!
After breakfast, we headed up to Washoe Valley, which is another one of my favorite spots in the Tahoe Reno area! (FYI - Carson Valley and Washoe Valley are HIGHLY underrated and under-visited spots in Tahoe/Reno in my humble opinion). We played Toiyabe Golf Club in the afternoon and the views were amazing, especially on the tee box of hole 17! The course is a great mix of links-style and Alpine golf, and they were adhering to the social distancing guidelines so it was a win all around.
Then we headed up to Reno and stayed the night at the Renaissance Hotel which I highly recommend! Since I’m pregnant, we skipped our usual casino stay (Tom and I love playing craps!), and enjoyed the smoke-free environment at this hotel and the Holiday Inn Express in Minden. We had dinner at The Eddy which was such a cool outdoor space with a DJ and awesome drinks and food! The Eddy normally has games like corn hole and bocce ball, but due to social distancing guidelines, those were put away. Once we are back to normal life though, I can’t wait to go back and play all of the games!
The next morning we woke up and had breakfast at The Shore Room which is the restaurant located in the hotel - which did I mention is right next to the Truckee River?! They had a “Faux Mosa” made with non-alcoholic gin which I loved!
We were about to head home when we got wind that our good friends from LA rented an amazing AirBnB right at the base of Heavenly Ski Resort so we decided to extend our stay with them one more night in South Lake! Before we left the following morning, we found this rad donut shop called Glazed and Confused that is a MUST!
Like I said before, I highly recommend visiting during the week and partaking in activities outdoors to really follow those social distancing. Even better, head to places in Tahoe that aren’t as highly visited like Carson Valley and Washoe Valley.
Huge thank you to Weidinger PR, Tahoe South, Visit Carson Valley, Reno Tahoe, and all of the golf courses, hotels, and other sponsors for making this wonderful babymoon happen!
