Today I had the absolute pleasure and privilege to play Montreux Golf and Country Club which is home of the Barracuda Championship, previously known as the Reno Tahoe Open. I've been to the event a few times and always wanted to play Montreux. It sure didn't disappoint!
Montreux is a total hidden gem to those outside the Reno area. It is a Jack Nicklaus designed course and embarking on its 20th anniversary this year. Imagine a Nicklaus designed course nestled in the Sierra Nevada woodlands in between snow-capped mountains. Yeah, it's paradise.
My advice to anyone playing this course for the first time is play it forward! Play a shorter yardage because this course is tricky tricky tricky. You need to know where to miss it in the fairways and by the greens. I played from the Montreux tees (6539) the first 9 and switched to a combo of the Tahoe (6085) and Galena (5357) on the second 9 because I ain't tryna make golf any more difficult for myself than it needs to be!
Also remember the altitude and elevation is NO JOKE. I had to Club down 1-2 clubs the entire round because most of my shots went over the green the first few holes.
We received a ton of rain and snow this season in this region, so I wasn't expecting perfection for this course. But it WAS perfection! The fairways were like carpet and barely had any divots or imperfections. This is definitely one of the top 5 courses I've played which makes sense as Jack said it's one of his top four or five he's ever designed.
Mounain Views on every hole!
If the views weren't enough, Montreux is about to go through an $8million dollar clubhouse renovation. The clubhouse and fitness center is amazing yet they are making it even better! It's such a great community of people, and recently became member-owned.
I can't wait to go back for the Barracuda Championship this year in August! If you're looking for an awesome event where you can be up close and personal with the pros, surrounded by a great community and even better location, you gotta go to the Barracuda Championship at Montreux!
Thank you Montreux and Parc Forest )and my wonderful host Margie!) for hosting and treating me to a wonderful round and day!
Stay tuned for the rest of my adventures this week in the Reno Tahoe area!
