There are so many world class golf courses in the Reno and Tahoe area, including the big ones you always hear about like Montreux and Edgewood. However, one you may have not heard about but must put on your bucket list is Clear Creek in the Carson Valley. Clear Creek is tucked away in the basin of the valley, with about a 2 mile drive off of 50 to get there.
I was lucky enough to play when it reopened in 2012, and so happy to get a second chance to play it. I know I said Montreux is tricky, but Clear Creek is on another level! Because it is down in a basin surrounded by the mountains, the greens are deceiving. You think it should break one way, but it usually always breaks away from Mount Rose. Not to mention there are so many false fronts and tiers, so good luck keeping the ball on the green! It's a Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw designed course who said it "hopefully provides interesting and memorable golf." It sure does.
This course is probably in the top 5 hardest courses I've played! But also in the top 5 prettiest locations! I highly recommend playing here if you're in the area. Stay tuned for where I go next!
